Pyrite is an iron sulfide which gets its name from the Greek word "pyr" (fire) as it produces sparks when struck with steel. Incas used large slabs of polished pyrite as mirrors and North American Indians used Pyrite as amulets. Believed to be a protector, drawing energy from the earth. Said to encourage creativity and overcome lethargy. Also believed to be a symbol for money and good luck. Description - These beads have an opaque metallic luster. Sold as temporary strung 38cm (approx) strands.
