Semi Precious Beads
The name "Bead" comes from the Anglo Saxon word "Bidden" - to pray - probably from their use as beaded rosaries. However, semi precious beads have been around since before recorded history and way before Christianity being used for ornament and trade. The bead was probably the first gemstone to be cut by man and polished using sand as an abrasive.
If you are new to using Semi Precious Beads in your jewellery designs, there are a couple of things you should know.
1) Semi precious beads are a natural material and therefore some natural inclusions, variations in colour and patterning are normal.
2) The sizes quoted for beads are the average size - there can be a +/- 0.5mm tolerance.
3) Strand lengths are usually approximately 38-40cm - except for Pearls which usually are only in strands of 38cm.
