Carnelian

Carnelian

Legend - Variant of chalcedony, Carnelian is an opaque to translucent light orange to deep reddish/brown.  Name is derived from the latin word “carnem” meaning horn, in reference to the colour sometimes exhibited.  Widely used during Roman times to make signet or seal rings - it is said that hot wax does not stick to Carnelian.  Also called “Mecca Stone” and “Pigeon’s Blood Agate”.  Most of the rich rust/orange Carnelian on the market today has obtained its colour through heat treatment.

Properties - Long believed to bring luck, protection and comfort.  Said to be a motivation stone and some refer to it as the “self esteem stone”.

Description - These Carnelian beads are a dark, rich rust/orange colour.  Sold as temporary strung 40cm (approx) strands.
