Legend
Lapis is Latin for “stone”, Lazuli is derived from the Persian word “lazhuward” and
latin word “lazulum” meaning blue or heaven. Mentioned in 2650 BC in the Sumerian
epic of Gilgamesh and the Biblican book of Exodus. Ancient Egyptians used it extensively
in religious ceremonies and Lapis items were found in the tomb of Tutankhamen.
Malachite’s name is derived from the Greek word “maloche” meaning “mallow” as it
has the colour of mallow leaves. It was crushed in the Bronze Age to be used as
a green pigment. Greeks and Romans wore it as amulates to ward off eveil spirits
and illness.
Properties
Lapis is believed to open the “third eye”. It is a protective stone. Malachite
is a powerful healing stone, believed to absorb negative energy.
Description
These beads are formed by grinding Lapis Lazuli to a powder and mising with small
slices of malachite. Sold as temporary strung 40cm (approx) strands.
